In 2009 I attended the IODA Opti South American Championship. Even though this was just an Opti regatta, it was still one of my most memorable experiences as a sailor. Traveling South of the equator, my family, friends, and I went to Salinas, Ecuador where the regatta took place. With countries from all over the world in attendance, this event introduced me to true international competition and team racing. It was also held at an excellent venue, the Salinas Yacht Club!
