Held on the 3rd weekend of October, this regatta is being held for the 6th time on the beautiful Sarasota Bay. This regatta consists of fleets such as the WindRiders, Hobie Waves, Wetas, Stilettos, and many more. More importantly, they include F16s and F18s! Friday is an optional distance race and both Saturday and Sunday are fleet races. Come out for three days of intense racing at one of the best venues!

Tipsy

These little, flat bottomed dinghies are the A-Class cats of the skiff world. Measuring in at only 15 feet long and 4.4 feet wide, these single handed skiffs are perfect for the solo sailor who wants high performance at a lower cost. The average sailor in this boat's fleet ranges from 150lbs to 180lbs. They also carry a 15.5m2 asymmetrical spinnaker which makes these boats rocket down the course! Total sail area is 27.3 m2.

Big and Fancy

These J Class Yachts are just insanely big! When they were first built these mammoths sailed around with masts around 160 feet tall but because of rig failures the boats changed design. The boats in this class are all built similarly but vary slightly: between 120-135 feet in length and a sail area of around 7,500 ft². In 2000 the owners of the remaining J Class Yachts formed the official J Class Association and regattas are currently held around the world.

09 South American Champs

In 2009 I attended the IODA Opti South American Championship. Even though this was just an Opti regatta, it was still one of my most memorable experiences as a sailor. Traveling South of the equator, my family, friends, and I went to Salinas, Ecuador where the regatta took place. With countries from all over the world in attendance, this event introduced me to true international competition and team racing. It was also held at an excellent venue, the Salinas Yacht Club!
