Kaenon Arcata SR

Like most sailors I have gone through many pairs of sunglasses. I would either break them or lose them overboard, but once I learned more responsibility I began investing in higher quality glasses and Kaenon was the logical choice. With lightweight glasses designed for sport, Kaenon boasts a large selection fitting most needs. I have owned the Arlo for on-shore and Kard Kore for on the water. Unfortunately, both models are no longer fully supported by Kaenon’s production line, so I am now trying out the Arcata SR model. I ordered them with matte black frames and black G12 mirror lenses and am impressed so far. They are extremely lightweight and have extra nose padding, keeping them from fogging on my face and ensuring comfort. Some of the nose padding is removable allowing a closer fit if needed. I’ve used G12 mirror lenses in all of my Kaenon sunglasses and am once again satisfied with their ability to filter out bright light while not completely drowning out more dim conditions.

I chose the Arcata SR model primarily for their wraparound style as this helps block light at the sides of my eyes. Compared to the Hard Kore they provide slightly less coverage, but still more than most other frame styles. In my opinion it is quite difficult to replace the Hard Kore in terms of overall functionality, but the Arcata SR comes close!

Kaenon provides good customer service for repairs. I’ve sent them several pairs of glasses with scratched lenses and they have always returned them with new lenses free of charge, minus my shipping expense to their site. For that reason among their consistently high product quality I will continue to buy Kaenon.
